What is World Series of Poker?

The World Series of poker, also shortened to the abbreviation WSOP is a world-renowned series of poker tournaments.

The World Series of poker is held annually in the gaming capital of Las Vegas and started up in 2005, it is sponsored by the gaming giant’s Harrah’s Entertainment.

The idea of the World Series of poker in fact dates back to 1970. Benny Binion was said to have invited seven of the best-known poker players to the Horseshoe Casino in order to embark on a single tournament.

This single tournament had a set start and stop time and the winner was determined by a secret ballet.

When the game is played now the winner of each game receives a World Series of poker bracelet and also a monetary prize. This is based on the number of entrants and also the buy-in amounts.

The World Series of poker has grown massively in recent years and is now more popular than ever!

More and more events are appearing, which in turn means more and more players are participating in World Series of poker.

The main event of the World Series of poker is the $10,000 no-limit hold’em event, which has attracted thousands of players since 2004. This is no wonder when the prize in question is a multi-million dollar prize as well as the infamous World Series of poker bracelet.

The bracelet is in fact the most wanted award a poker player can achieve and the winner of the World Series of poker main event is crowned the World Champion of Poker.

This title alone is a great incentive to enter into the World Series of poker tournament and is possibly why thousands do each year!

The World Series of poker consists of a number of events, 58 in total. In these events a variety of major poker variants are also featured and many are in fact variants of Texas hold’em.

Events generally take place during the day or over several consecutive days throughout the duration of the World Series of poker.
