Poker Hands
Poker hands are among the most basic things to understand about the game. There are several cards combinations that you can construct during the game – in Texas Hold’em poker, for instance, you can construct poker hands using the two hole cards and five community cards available, although only five cards in total can be used. Understanding poker hands and knowing how to read them quickly while playing can be the key to staying profitable in playing poker.
The first known hand in poker is High Card; this happens when all players don’t have even a pair and the one with the highest card on the table is announced as the round’s winner. Next, you can also construct a pair. All you have to do is gather two cards of the same value (9-9, K-K, etc.) and you have a pair in your hand. You can also get a pocket pair – meaning you get a pair in your starting hand – but it is weighted as a pair in the end.
A hand with two pairs is also possible, although most poker players would think Three of a Kind is where a hand is getting stronger. It is relatively hard to beat a Three of a Kind indeed. Next, we have a Straight – a combination of cards in orderly value, such as 2-3-4-5-6 (Straight to Six) – and a Flush; a Flush is a hand where you get five same-suited cards.
Four of a Kind, Straight Flush, and of course the Royal Flush (10-J-Q-K-A same-suited are the three strongest hands in poker.
